Source modelling and stress transfer scenarios of the October 30, 2020 Samos earthquake: seismotectonic implications

On October 30, 2020, a strong earthquake (Mw6.6-7.0) occurred offshore, just north of Samos Island, causing life losses, injuries and damages, especially on the Turkish side. The broader area is characterized by complex geodynamic setting with both rich seismic history numerous active faults different direction kinematics. first aim this study to define source mainshock, based seismological geodetic data (GPS measurements originally processed GNSS records), as well our field observations Island few days after mainshock. integration information leads N-dipping normal fault (Kaystrios fault) that controls central-northern coast Island. We modelled calculated theoretical dislocation (using Okada formulae) surrounding GPS/GNSS stations, comparing it measured values. results are very encouraging, station installed giving confidence model. then used spatiotemporal evolution aftershock sequence exploiting published (focal mechanisms two catalogues, one which relocated hypocentres) Coulomb static stress changes caused This comparison suggests more than Kaystrios were involved in sequence.
